Teaching 9/11 is no easy task in 2026. How should teachers explain the profound tragedy to students who were not born when it occurred? Moreover, how do educators navigate the harsh realities of evil and suffering in history without leaving students feeling overwhelmed or hopeless? As a historian at Cornerstone College & Seminary, Dr. Bryce Woerner believes in the importance of teaching from a biblical worldview.
A Surprise Discovery for Dr. Woerner
Dr. Woerner’s approach to tackling 9/11 in his high school classroom recently caught the attention of the News & Advance. The local newspaper featured Dr. Woerner in an in-depth cover story about the importance of teaching 9/11 to new generations of students. To his surprise, He discovered the article while waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store.
“My faith influences the way I teach by keeping the perspective that teaching is a ‘calling and not a career.’ When approaching difficult historical events, we must realize that we live in a fallen world filled with sin. Even when horrible events occur, we as believers have the ultimate victory in Jesus Christ, and He has already won.”
